Rashida Begam w/o Khadar Basha is 30 years old and lives in Koppal town. She got married at the age of 14 years with Khadar Basha from Gangavati. Then she gave birth to the three children named Gousiya aged 13 years and Mahmad Mustafa aged 12 years and Abdul Rehaman aged 8 years. After 10 years of marriage Khadar Basha left home after quarrelling with Rashida and died in an accident. All the three children suffering from muscular dystrophy, but Rashida was not able to identify the problem of the children up to six years. All the children were in good health until their father’s death. The diagnosis, that all three children have muscular dystrophy, was a big shock for the family. With this disability the muscles of the children get progressively weaker with the time. Because of that they are now unable to stand and to walk independently. Also the children are completely dependent on the mother’s help for all daily activities like: bathing, feeding, washing, clothing etc. Rashida got pain due lifting her children to different places.
After the husband’s death they had to leave the family’s home and her brother provided a small house for them. Although the brother takes no care of them.
The family is economically poor since the mother is not able to work in this conditions and she gets only a small monthly pension from the government for the disabled children.
She underwent tailoring refresher course training of Samuha Samarthya and got a sewing machine through a GiveIndia donation. With this help she engaged in work and earns a minimum of Rs 500 rupees monthly now.
Despite all the achievements the family still needs to have a toilet room and a ramp to their house. With this the children could use a wheelchair und so would be more independent. Because of that the mother will have more time to work and earn money for the family.
