Kariyappa’s Story

Kariyappa is 5 years old, he is from an economically poor family from rural Lebagere village in Koppal taluk. He was sent by a local Doctor from Koppal to the Physiotherapy centre in Samarthya. The father is a daily wager.
Kariyappa has severe Cerebral Palsy by birth. The parents came to Samarthya with the complaint of developmental delay, with motor problems and suffering with fits.
Samarthyas Early Intervention Centre did a detailed assessment of his condition and made a plan of activities for his rehabilitation. So Kariyappa got a therapeutic treatment like physiotherapy, splints and a special seating chair. The Parents also got training how to use these treatments. He is also coming to Samarthyas Early intervention centre for the follow up service. We have supported to access Niramaya a health insurance card, a disability identity card, and pension from Government. The parents got counseling support and the mother is also learning tailoring skills from the Samarthya tailoring center koppal. She will get a sewing machine after the training. Then she can start earning money at home and also she can support the child at home.
Now Kariyappa is able 50% neck holding, Laughing, smiling and recognize the parents, and his fits also stopped. His mother and father are continuing the physiotherapy treatment at home.
